EndNote Availability at Emory
NEW!
EndNote X2 for Mac OS/Vista/Windows is now available at Cox Hall and from
Emory Software Express. AND an update, X2.0.2 for Windows and X2.0.1 for Mac
OS X is
now available If you have an earlier version of EndNote, you should make
safe copies of any existing libraries, customized connection files, import
filters,
or output styles, then uninstall the older version of EndNote before installing
EndNote X2. THEN update to X2.0.2 (or X2.0.1 for Mac) with this information:
How to update EndNote
1. Update installed EndNote X2 or X2.0.1 using Program Updates. Within
EndNote, choose "EndNote Program Updates" from the "Help" menu.
WINDOWS
NOTE: While the update/installer is titled X2.0.2, the "About EndNote" description
remains "X2.0.1 (Build 3514)" after installation. This version
of the update does not require users to uninstall and reinstall the program.
2. Alternatively EndNote X2 users can download the free update.
What's new in the EndNote X2 Update:
- The temporary online search results are back! Now you can choose between
having results automatically stored in the library or kept separate
for more selectivity.
Three new buttons above the Groups panel provide:
- Integrated Library & Online
Search Mode—library groups and
online search results are combined on this panel to simplify
navigation. Online
search results are saved directly into the open library.
- Local
Library Mode—the focus on this panel is groups
built from the EndNote library. The Online Search groups are
not available.
When
initiating an online
search from the Tools menu, the Groups pane display switches
to Online Search
Mode.
- Online Search Mode—only the Online Search groups
are available. When downloading references from an online database,
the references
are stored
in a temporary library much like in previous versions of EndNote.
Those references you wish to keep can then be copied to a permanent
EndNote
library.
- EndNote now includes EndNote Web so users can collaborate with colleagues
and students easily. Using EndNote and EndNote Web users can:
- Transfer
references between the Web and the desktop using the EndNote Web section
in the Groups pane
- Share EndNote Web groups—simplify collaboration
- Cite references
from both EndNote and EndNote Web in a single paper
- Use EndNote Web browser
plug-ins for Internet Explorer® and now
Firefox® 3
to directly export references from data providers
- Work on both the
desktop and Web
- View online tutorials
- Additional new features include:
- Improvements to accuracy and speed in
Find Full Text
- More icons and auto-groups to enhanced usability and workflows
- Improvements
to Cite While You Write™ for Word® 2008 for
(Mac OS X)
- Added Cite While You Write support for .enlp package libraries (Mac
OS X)
- Updated Connections, Bibliographic Output Styles, and Import Filters

NOTE: EndNote X2 and Vista 64-bit systems
EndNote X2 is experiencing compatibility issues on some Vista 64-bit
operating systems. The issue appears to be connected to Cite While
You Write in MS
Word 2007. Please contact our Technical
Support team
with details while our research continues.

Support page for information about EndNote Workshops.
What is EndNote?
EndNote is a personal citation/bibliography manager program that runs on Macintosh
and Windows computers. EndNote helps researchers organize references in a database,
which can be used to format citations and create bibliographies automatically
in a word processor.
EndNote Features
- Format citations and create bibliographies automatically in Microsoft
Word.
- Create an unlimited number of databases of unlimited size.
- Group references:
Create custom groups, including Smart Groups that update automatically as
references are added to a library, for instant access
to subsets of references.
- Find full text articles automatically: EndNote
will locate and download full text for you. Select one or more references,
a group, or your entire library and have EndNote scan for full text available
to you.
- Store PDF and other files with your EndNote library
- EndNote can connect
directly to many information resources (including Emory's online library
catalog, EUCLID).
- For resources that do not support direct connections,
downloaded references can be imported into personal EndNote databases using
import filters.
This web site provides support for EndNote users at Emory. See also the EndNote
Research Guide. If you have questions about using EndNote, please contact
us via email or telephone.
